Starliner Launch Campaign Begins
May 6, 2024 Launch Date Set for Boeing's First Starliner Astronaut Mission
Atlas V Stacking to Commence 45 Days Prior to Liftoff
Preparations for the upcoming launch of Boeing's Starliner spacecraft are well underway, with the launch campaign scheduled to begin approximately 45 days before liftoff.
United Launch Alliance (ULA) will oversee the stacking of an Atlas V rocket at Space Launch Complex 41, marking the start of the campaign. The launch is currently targeted for May 6, 2024, and will serve as a critical test flight to demonstrate the capabilities of the Starliner spacecraft before it carries astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS).
This mission, known as Starliner-1, will be uncrewed and will verify the spacecraft's ability to autonomously dock with the ISS. A subsequent crewed flight test, Starliner-2, is planned to take place later in 2024.
In addition to these test flights, NASA has ordered six Boeing crew rotation missions to the ISS aboard the Starliner. Once fully operational, the spacecraft will provide a redundant crew transportation system to the ISS, complementing SpaceX's Crew Dragon spacecraft.
