Timberwolves Take Anthony Edwards at No. 3, Hornets Recap All the Highlights and Analysis

A Promising Addition to the Timberwolves

On the night of the NBA draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves made a bold move by selecting Anthony Edwards with the third overall pick. Edwards, a 6'5" shooting guard from the University of Georgia, is an explosive offensive player who has shown the ability to light up the scoreboard with his combination of strength, athleticism, and scoring prowess. The Timberwolves are hoping that Edwards can develop into a star and help them return to the playoffs after missing out last season.

Edwards' Impressive College Career

Edwards averaged 19.1 points per game in his lone season at Georgia, leading the Bulldogs to a 16-16 record. He was named to the All-SEC First Team and was also a finalist for the Naismith Player of the Year Award. Edwards' impressive college career culminated in him being selected by the Timberwolves with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Hornets Recap the Draft

The Charlotte Hornets also had a busy draft night, selecting three players in the first round. The Hornets' first pick was LaMelo Ball, the younger brother of Lonzo Ball, with the third overall pick. Ball is a 6'7" point guard who averaged 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in his lone season with the Illawarra Hawks of the Australian NBL. The Hornets also selected Precious Achiuwa with the 20th overall pick and Vernon Carey Jr. with the 34th overall pick.
